FAQs For You
Find answers to common questions about our business and products in a simple, organized manner.
How much paint do I need for my vehicle? The amount of paint required varies depending on the size of your vehicle and if you're painting just the exterior or also areas like door jams, under the hood, and inside the trunk. Generally, one kit is sufficient for a small to mid-sized exterior, but we recommend two for more comprehensive projects.
What is the difference between 1K and 2K paint products? "1K" products are single-component and do not require a hardener, while "2K" products include a hardener, providing a harder finish and a deeper gloss for enhanced durability and appearance.
Do I need a clear coat, and why is it important? While you can skip it for some projects, a clear coat is highly recommended for achieving show-quality results and enhancing the glossy appearance of your paint. It also provides crucial resistance against chemicals, weather, and UV light, ensuring a long-lasting finish.
What additional supplies do I need beyond just the paint? At a minimum, you will need an acrylic reducer. Depending on your desired results and the condition of your vehicle, you might also need an acrylic hardener, clear coat, and primer. Don't forget essential tools like paint mixing cups and proper surface preparation materials like sandpaper and body fillers.
How do I achieve the correct paint mixture ratios? A common ratio for reducer is 4 parts paint to 1 part reducer. If you're using an acrylic hardener with clear coat, a good starting point is 1 ounce of hardener to every 8 ounces of clear. Always refer to the specific product instructions for the best results.
Can I order touch-up paint by just the color name? We strongly advise against ordering touch-up paint by color name alone. Due to variations across manufacturers, it's crucial to use your vehicle's color code for accurate matching to ensure the best blend.
How long should I wait between paint coats, and what are common application tips? It's generally recommended to wait 15 to 20 minutes between paint coats. When using a spray can, hold it about 6 to 10 inches from the surface to prevent premature drying and ensure an even application. Proper technique and temperature are key to avoiding issues like cloudiness or "orange peel."
How long does automotive paint typically last on a vehicle? With proper care and application, automotive paint can last as long as the original factory paint on your vehicle. Proper storage, typically 2-3 years for most products at room temperature, also contributes to the longevity of the paint itself.
Do you offer custom paint mixing or paint matching services? Yes, we offer both paint matching and custom paint mixing services to help you achieve the perfect color for your project.
Can automotive paint be used on items other than vehicles, like furniture or brake calipers? Absolutely! Automotive paint is incredibly versatile and can be used to customize a wide range of items, including furniture, guitars, brake calipers, and engine bays, offering a durable and professional finish.

Very friendly service and knows how to do the job, not just sell paint. Went out to see the car to know what we planned to do. Mixed our paint in 15 minutes. Guided us step by step on how to prep, prime, paint and clear coat. The shop has a N. Lamar address, but actually sets back. Turn on Provines Drive and the shop is on the left. Highly recommend.
